Tyler’s Superlative Chocolate Chip Cookies

My brother is pretty much a genius, who devotes himself fully and completely to deeply understanding things he is passionate about. Lately that’s been plants: pressing them, drawing them, and identifying them wherever he is using a dichotomous key (yes, for fun!). But at one point the passion was creating the perfect chocolate chip cookie recipe, and I’m happy to share with y’all that this is it!!!

Ingredients

  • 2.25 cups all purpose flour
  • 1.25 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • .5 cup brown sugar
  • 2 sticks butter
  • 1.25 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups chocolate chips

How to

  1. Mix the dry ingredients (flour, salt, baking soda) together in a bowl and set aside.
  2. Cream the butter (room temp, or zap in the microwave for 10-15 seconds to soften) and sugars together in the bowl of an electric mixer.
  3. Add the egg, vanilla and milk to the mixer bowl and stir to combine.
  4. Mix in the dry ingredients on low speed until barely incorporated – dough will be crumby and powdery still since you don’t want to overmix!
  5. Add chocolate chips and stir until just combined.
  6. Use a cookie scoop to get nice evenly sized cookies, about 12 to a sheet and bake at 375F for 10 minutes until *lightly* browned around the edges. Do not over bake or else the bottoms will be burned!! I usually make 2 dozen and swap the trays halfway through cooking to make sure they stay happy and delicious. The recipe makes about 4 dozen but they also freeze well for later baking!

I’ve made a million other cookie recipes and there are a handful of great ones out there, but this one is just a classic. It’s easy to follow, with no fussy ingredients and the cookies are the perfect chewy texture, with a tiny bit of crunch and a delicious mix of sweet and salty flavors. Thank you Tyler!!!!!! love you ðŸ™‚
